Useless Essential Oils

The medical benefits of essential oils are often overblown.

Irresponsible claims often mislead consumers and raise false expectations. Pseudo-science has touted essential oil inhalation as a viable way to fight cancer symptoms, heart disease and to treat infections and diseases. These claims are bolstered by little to no evidence.

Useless Essential Oils

Relying on essential oils to treat illnesses places people at risk. Demonstrating these significant medical benefits would require large and expensive well-designed clinical trials, and, so far, none have been funded or completed.

With these concerns and shaky claims in mind, it is also important to understand that the positive benefits of essential oils in daily life for household or environmental uses are clearly substantiated and have been established over centuries of use.

Essential oil products are highly effective when used on surfaces. In stark contrast with the unsubstantiated medical claims, the strong antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal benefits of essential oils are easily demonstrated in the lab. Lab testing methods are validated and established by professional societies and the Environmental Protection Agency.

The antibacterial and anti-fungal properties of essential oils are supported by science.

A study published in 2011 in the Journal of Environmental Pharmacology and Toxicology reported that rosemary oil had a wide spectrum of strong antibacterial and antifungal activity against three Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis), three Gram-negative bacteria (Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli) and two fungi (Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger).

PlaneAire® Travel Mist has proven documented lab results from EMSL Analytical Inc., one of the leading U.S environmental testing firms, which has shown that our powerful proprietary blend of organic essential oils and organic fruit acids is 99.99% effective on all surfaces and kills the harmful odor-causing bacteria someone else left behind.

Additionally, unlike alcohols and other common disinfectants, bacterial resistance to essential oils has not been observed. The probable reason for the superior bacterial killing of essential oils is the drastic injurious effects of essential oils on bacterial cell walls.  Essential oils attack and fragment bacterial cell walls, leading to rapid killing, preventing partial injury and blocking mutation to resistant organisms.

Remember, not all products can claim they are lab tested—because they are not!

PlaneAire, on the other hand, is science-driven and lab-tested. With a wide array of unsubstantiated claims floating around, it is more important than ever to do your research and ensure that the products you are using are supported by science.
